Ted Weighs In

Hit the high priority areas first…

TUESDAY, 04.07.09

1603: From Ted Waitt, RE: Working The Box
We want to do E for sure, so maybe better to do it now and — depending on our efficiency — come back to F if we have time, and do them vertically. We need a plan that hits the highest priority areas first in case something goes wrong, and that also covers all the boxes in the most efficient manner in case things go right.

2100: My Response To Ted Waitt
Understood. Andy Sherrell has already made up this new iteration of remaining boxes. We could still perhaps trim 21a/b, but as Steve has been pointing out lately, and I know Andy alluded to, not all sonar data is created equal and we know our arrays are working correctly.

As to how best to proceed, I’ll let Andy show you his plan. He’s gonna realign the E boxes (like the C line), so we’ll finish A/B, do E, do C and then come back to F. It’ll mean a little more Deep Ocean Transponder (DOT) farming, but we have the time and fuel for that with negligible impact to survey time. We used 30 out of 59 thousand gallons of diesel on Leg 1.

This is the iteration of the planning map discussed in the emails shown here.
