The results are awesome...
1334: Ted Waitt To Lee Frey
So, what are the furthest north boxes we will have completed by the break?
1608: Lee Frey Response To Ted Waitt
The middle of 16a/16b. So ~14 more boxes to finish columns A & B.
1756: Ted Waitt To Lee Frey
Cool, that’s what I was assuming. Threw me a bit going back to 14. So, you’ll be starting on 17 and a small portion of 16 when you get back?
1809: Lee Frey To Ted Waitt
Exactly. The upper half of 16 needs to be cleared, so actually a total of 15 boxes (two columns of seven, plus two half-boxes) in order to complete columns A & B. Of course, this assumes we get good data from the current missions. I will let you know how it went once we recover the vehicles this evening. Cheers.
1849: Ted Waitt To Lee Frey
So, if we can get lucky and average one per day, we’ll have approx. 15 boxes we can select or add at random to choose from after we finish A and B lanes.
2115: My Response To Both On This Issue
I think we’re going to do significantly better than what we have seen to date. At this point, there is no reason to suppose that the 120/410s will fail. I agree this is a possibility, but I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion. As well, we have certainly learned from the experience out here and should have FAR fewer user aborts and other technical issues. We could run into some attrition due to the sheer number of evolutions, but we should also see some bounce from the exact opposite too, with the gear burned in and operating reliably.
I plan to have a lead meeting tomorrow at noon to discuss the end of Leg 1, reports and inventories and to get another shot at a coverage estimate. I heard one of the guys from the first Leg agreeing that the current 53 percent coverage is reasonable, but I find it unacceptable. Why buy a system like this if that’s the case? Why not stick with a towed array if you can’t beat the coverage of one? We ARE going to do better. I plan for us to meet the original numbers for a significant portion of the next Leg or sweat blood trying.
I’ll get you some numbers tomorrow. Thanks, Ted.
