Dinner Invitation

The crew catches a 40-lb. yellow fin tuna and Captain Gunther invites Ted Waitt aboard for dinner…

SATURDAY, 02.21.09

0114: To Ted Waitt, Invitation
Seward Johnson Captain Gunther has asked me to extend an invitation to you, as well as all available personnel from your ship, to join us for dinner tomorrow evening. Our crew landed a 40-pound yellow fin tuna this afternoon, and we plan to cook it up on the back deck tomorrow evening. Saturday is usually ‘Steak Night’ where we grill our own, but as you guys are out here and they got that big ole’ fish today, Captain Gunther would like to do something a bit different. He has mentioned this to me twice in the last 24 hours and while I’m sure he would understand if you preferred otherwise, I think he truly hopes you will join us.

Captain George, Greg Packard and Chef GB monitor their Saturday Steak Night meal preparation

(R-L) Woods Hole Operations Team Lead Greg Packard and Seward Johnson Steward Gerard Bilquin ("GB") check out Captain Gunther's form on the grill during Saturday Steak Night.

Our current schedule over the next couple days may make it difficult, and the sea state might be an issue, so perhaps we may want to wait until the right time for this (but I know this is a very sincere gesture on his part). If not tomorrow, then perhaps before you depart. I hope you’ll consider it.

0915: From Ted Waitt, Invitation
Sounds good. Just to be clear, you’re talking tonight? Let me check the schedule, but should work fine as we want to be there tomorrow anyway. Also, need to pick a night to have key people here when there isn’t a lot going on to disrupt. Who would be on that list — Andy Sherrell, Greg Packard, Lee Frey, you?
