A Frustrating Day
Both girls are working, but have bad sonar data in their port channels…

0547: Day 18 & 19 (March 4 & 5)
Mary Ann and Ginger both completed their surveys of boxes 24a and 24b respectively, and nothing was found. They were recovered on the March 4th and put into boxes 8a and b. When they came back today, both had bad sonar data in the port channels. The data in the starboard channels showed no glaring targets. Ginger had her sonar cables and port transducer changed out and was put back in to re-survey box 8b in reverse. Mary Ann is currently on deck undergoing testing and review by Hydroid personnel. The technical talk going back and forth is above my echelon and so I won’t try and reduce it to understandable terms just yet. I’m going to let the heads do their thing and see where we are tomorrow morning. We are getting good feedback from Hydroid right now so I’m going to just step back and let everyone do their jobs, but it has been a fairly frustrating day. More later.

Poor results when only half the sidescan sonar is working...
1145: From Ted Waitt RE: Day 18 & 19
Strange both would have the same problem.
1154: Response To TW
I don’t think it’s the exact same problem, just in the same place. They’re not even configured identically, one has a board shielded and the other doesn’t. I just rolled out of bed and they’re just putting Mary Ann back in the water. There’s a pile of e-mail here between Hydroid and Greg Packard. I’ll get caught up and update you.
